Insecta Collective End Of Summer Blog

Concluding Our Summer Workshops

Despite not getting any funding towards a summer workshop programme this year, Insecta Collective have had a busy summer!

Firstly, a big thank you to Melton Space CIC and in particular, their Director Grace, who has been organising having Liz at their centre delivering pay-as-you-feel family workshops over the holidays, kindly funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Participants joined in with gelli pad printing, polymer clay bead making, repeat pattern block printing, silk screen printed tote bags and pop art nature printing. Liz will be delivering a fruit themed polymer clay workshop at Melton Space Apple Day/Autumn Fair, so watch this space for more information about that and how to book on.

Liz and Shama offered 4 workshops in Leicester City this summer, and were very fortunate to have enjoyed blissful weather for each one; we did a bug hunt in Abbey Park and found beetles and ladybird larvae, we made nature inspired zines in Spinney Hill Park, created cyanotypes and gelli pad prints at Saffron Heath, and made maps of nature at Saffron Acres, whilst enjoying some delicious apples and plums from their orchard.

We’re busy planning for autumn, winter and for our summer workshop programme next year. Liz will be starting to undertake her PhD in September this year, so she will be a very busy lady! However, you will still see plenty of opportunities to get involved with our arts and nature activities. Check back for our autumn workshops and our upcoming open call exhibition opening for entries in February.

For now, enjoy some photos from the best of our summer!
